JAPANESE CLOISONNE JAPANESE CLOISONNE
Yasuyuki Namikawa
October 1, 1845 to May 24, 1927. He was a Japanese cloisonne artist. He was one of the leading Japanese cloisonne artists of the Meiji period (1868-1912), based mainly in Kyoto. He devoted himself to and mastered wired cloisonne, the starting point of modern cloisonne, and was regarded as one of the "Two Namikawas" along with his rival Sosuke Namikawa, who was active in Tokyo and specialized in wireless cloisonne.
Sosuke Namikawa
1847 to February 9, 1910. He was a Japanese cloisonne artist. Based in Tokyo, he featured pictorial expression in wireless cloisonne, and was regarded as one of the "Two Namikawas" along with Ysuyuki Namikawa, who was also active in Kyoto.
Kodenji Hayashi
Born in 1831. From Tooshima Village, Kaitogun, Owari (Aichi Prefecture). Learned cloisonne techniques from Shogoro Hayashi in 1861. He sold his products to foreigners in Yokohama soon after the port was opened to foreign trade and became a pioneer in the export of cloisonne for the Meiji government. In 1887, he established the Nagoya Cloisonne Association, and in 1894, he opened the Cloisonne Training School. He died in November 1915.

Kunisada Utagawa
He produced the largest number of works among all Ukiyoe. His works in his early years, when he took the name Gototei, were fresh, and many of his paintings of beautiful women and actors were excellent.
Kuniyoshi Utagawa
He was one of the leading Ukiyoe artists of the late Edo period. He produced many excellent works with his unique and novel design ability and outlandish ideas.
Yoshitoshi Tsukioka
One of the most famous Ukiyoe artists of the late Edo period. He produced a wide variety of excellent works with his solid painting ability and original ideas.
Shinsui Ito
A master of beauty prints who pioneered the new print movement together with Hasui Kawase. While carrying on the tradition of woodblock prints, he created his own unique and softly rendered paintings of beautiful women.

Zeshin Shibata
Zeshin Shibata (March 15, 1807 to July 13, 1891) was a lacquer craftsman, painter, and Japanese-style painter who was active from the end of the Edo period to the middle of the Meiji period (1868-1912). He was an artisan who played a role as a bridge from the early modern period to the modern period in the field of Japanese lacquer craftsmanship.
