A masterwork by the eminent artist Namikawa Yasuyuki — a refined piece that skillfully employs generous negative space.
The composition features chrysanthemums and a butterfly rendered with exquisite precision. Although the butterfly measures merely 1 cm, it is executed with a remarkable level of quality that reveals the supreme technical mastery of the artist — a true work of chōzetsu-gikō (transcendent virtuosity).
The background employs the very same green glaze used in Namikawa Yasuyuki's celebrated masterpiece "Cloisonné Dish with Cherry Blossoms and Butterflies" (held in the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto).
