A masterwork by Namikawa Yasuyuki, Artist to the Imperial Household (Teishitsu Gigei-in). Against a black ground, birds and blossoms are rendered entirely in gold wire, with generous negative space lending the composition an air of refined elegance.
The lines appear as if drawn with a brush — the thickness varied within each single wire. A splendid work in which Namikawa's supreme technical mastery is fully manifest.
