A masterwork by Tōgawa Sōsuke, Artist to the Imperial Household (Teishitsu Gigei-in). Bearing the Imperial Chrysanthemum Crest, this piece is a work bestowed by an Imperial House (a cadet branch of the Imperial family).
A restrained composition of paulownia (kiri) and phoenix (hōō) motifs adorns the upper and lower registers of the vessel. With its generous negative space, this beautiful vase possesses a refined and elegant presence.
