Contemporary art refers to works produced since around 1950, defined by free expression that engages with themes of society, ideas, and concept.
Distinct from earlier traditions, it is characterized by a creative freedom unconstrained by conventions of form and technique.
Contemporary Art at Ginza Shinseido — A Carefully Curated Selection of Works of Our Time.
In addition to Japanese cloisonné and antiques, Ginza Shinseido also handles contemporary art.
Unlike antiques refined through the passage of time, contemporary art carries the freedom of imagination and creative spirit born of our own era.
Looking to the context of each work and the artist's vision, we carefully select pieces that embody the sensibility unique to our time.

Please note: to ensure the highest quality of service,
same-day appointments and walk-in visits cannot be accommodated.
Each artist's perspective and sensibility takes form through free expression, bringing different impressions and insights to every viewer.
This multiplicity of interpretation is what gives contemporary art its richness — and it deepens every moment spent with each work.
Every work we handle is carefully selected based on period analysis, technical examination, and provenance research. Each piece must meet our own rigorous selection criteria before entering our inventory. You may rest assured.
We recommend starting with works that genuinely speak to you — pieces that stay with you, that you find yourself wanting to see again.
Beyond fame or critical reputation, trusting your own response is what leads to discovering a work you can live with for years to come.
Some galleries promote contemporary art as an investment, claiming that "it has value and will appreciate." At Ginza Shinseido, we will never make such claims.
Honestly, no one can predict future value.
Market values can fluctuate as an artist's career develops and as critical reception shifts — they may rise, and they may fall.
What we value most at Ginza Shinseido is not investment, but the experience of living with a work, and the time you spend in its company.
While our gallery operates by appointment only, making an appointment does not commit you to a purchase.
We warmly welcome visits made purely to view our works.
For collectors at a distance, we are happy to provide detailed photographs and additional information upon request.
We are committed to addressing any concerns so that your decision can be made with full confidence.
Our journal offers an in-depth look at the history of Japanese cloisonné and Meiji craftsmanship, and at the legacies of its master artisans.
